A Comedy by Neil Simon
Auditions —January 28 & 29, 2013 at 7 p.m. Cast: 3 men, 4 women
Eugene is a bright, imaginative teenager living with his family (mother, father, brother, aunt, and two cousins) in a lower-middle-class Brooklyn home in 1937. He is the central character and narrator of a few days in his family’s life. His dreams of being a professional baseball player and of learning something about the opposite sex conflict with the real problems facing the struggling Jewish household. This appealing play deftly mixes drama with comedy as only Neil Simon can.
THE CAST & STAFF
We are also proud to have such an experienced cast to present this play. Playing Eugene will be Dion Mills, new to HLT, but viewers will have seen him at Flat Playhouse. Lyn French O’Hare will be Eugene’s mother Kate. Lyn is a veteran performer for both HLT and Brevard Little Theatre. Eugene’s brother Stanley is Daniel Fritog, fresh from the cast of Romeo and Juliet. Phillip Packer, known both at HLT and Asheville Community Theatre, plays Jack, the boys’ father. Carole Avery, last seen in The Trip to Bountiful, is Blanche, Kate’s sister. Blanche’s daughters are Jessica Donahue who appeared in The Trip to Bountiful, and Skylan Rayne. Skylan has quite a resume for a 12 year old, not only in theater but also in dance and modeling.
An equally experienced team is leading this cast. Jonathan Forrester is director. He directed last season’s The Glass Menagerie and appeared as Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet. Beth Norris and Jim Walker share duties as producers. Sandy Newman is stage manager, and Bobby Foster is set designer.
